
Wil van Iersel ( 1965) is based in Amsterdam and is working in the Netherlands, Germany and Switzerland. He is a documentary photographer. Works over a long period of time on his own projects and is looking for a very personal approach towards his subjects.
He doesn't want to judge on todays 'Condition Humaine', but is asking questions about current situations. You can characterize his pictures by a sensual and aesthetic temptation, hereby the photographer gives his expression about the absurdity and tragedy of the human existence.
His study was at the 'Koninklijke Academie voor Beeldende Kunst' Den Haag, where he later on was invited as a guest teacher in documentary photography. From the city of Amsterdam he received the award; 'Aanmoedigingsprijs voor Fotografie'. He made several exhibitions in the Netherlands, a.o.; the Amsterdam Historische Museum, Spaarnestad fotoarchief, Nederlands Foto Museum and Melkweg/IDFA. Publications in newspapers like NRC Handelsblad, NZZ am Sonntag ore catalogue, a.o: Noorderlicht fotofestival 1999. Has create photo- and artist books in small edition, a.o.: Geld and Internaat. He became different commissions from; 'Fonds van Beeldende kunsten', 'Amsterdam Fonds van de Kunst', the city of Utrecht and the province of Noord Holland. His work is collect by the Amsterdam gemeentearchief and Randstad photo-collection. In 2007 he is developing artist books by print on demand; 'Every week a new book'. 52 photo-books each in circulation of one. This project, will be a presentation at the Nederlands Foto Museum in 2008.
